Glossop Primary Care Centre

The £5 million state of the art centre achieved Practical Completion on 25th June 2010

The Glossop Primary Care Centre is a living and breathing example of how one building can make a vital difference to its local population, not only in how services can de delivered but how different health services and can work together to the benefit of all.

The overall design concept has been developed using a traditional style and materials that enhance the conservation area that creates a real community feel.

A sensitive approach has been adopted to minimise the impact of the local surroundings including timber detailing and local materials such as natural stone and slate are featured in the buildings façade, creating a traditionally styled building sympathetic to its environment

For a number of years, the condition and suitability of the existing clinic for the delivery of modern health care services has been variable. The existing facilities did not always meet patients’ expectations, with quality and access often being below an acceptable standard. NHS Tamesie and Glossop recognised this and invested in the development of this £5m building, which stands as an exemplar of innovation of what can be achieved when the wide ranging of health services join forces to deliver services which are focused on the broader current and future needs of the local community.

Partnership in Action

Any complete purpose built Primary Care Centre, which delivers cutting edge community and health services cannot be achieved without buy-in from all of the partners in the scheme.

Bury, Tameside and Glossop Community Solutions, the public private partnership, specialising in providing bespoke health and social care premises, has worked in partnership with NHS Tameside and Glossop to develop and deliver the new state-of-the-art Glossop Primary Care Centre on George Street close to the town centre of Glossop and will serve a large part of the local population from the surrounding Glossopdale area.

The construction of the new Centre was achieved with little or no disruption to the existing services. High Peak Borough Council liaised closely with the main contractor to organise access to the site and the roads and footpath closures as necessary.
