Millbrook Medical Centre

"A much needed resource in the heart of the community, that will really benefit local people"

The 600m2 medical centre was developed under the Government’s Equitable Access programme of providing more access to GPs in areas where it is most needed. The Medical Centre opened its doors to its first patients on the 15th February 2010. The surgery provides more convenient healthcare for local people with flexible weekend and evening opening hours.

The building was developed on a fast track procurement programme in order to match central government funding. BTGCS property and development specialists have worked very closely with NHS Tameside and Glossop, demonstrating the flexibility and value for money that the partnership brings to such schemes.

BTGCS delivered the Medical Centre from, initial brief to handing over the keys in 16 months. This included securing a suitable site, land purchase, contract negotiations and construction. The established relationships between BTGCS and NHS Tameside and Glossop enabled key decisions to be made efficiently and effectively. BTGCS also worked with the land owner and contractor, Countryside Properties in a collaborative manner, this approach achieved a defect free building to programme and within budget.

The new GP services are provided by GTD Primary Care. This is a subsidiary of Go to Doc the local Tameside and Glossop out of hours provider, who provide GP practice services in Oldham. The move follows the recent opening of other Equitable Access centres run by Go To Doc in Ashton-under-Lyne, Audenshaw and Guide Bridge, which have already proven popular with the public.

Tim Riley, Chief Executive for NHS Tameside and Glossop said;

“We are delighted with the new medical centre, it is a much needed resource in the heart of the community, that will really benefit local people”
